Unique Gift Registries

As couples continue to get married later in life – the average age for couples to get married in the United States is 27 for women and 29 for men – unique gift registries are becoming increasingly popular. Couples who get married later in life generally already have the majority of necessities for the home. Instead of opting for new silverware or blenders, couples are opting to create unique gift registries. Some choose to incorporate experience gifts like add on excursions for their honeymoon or museum memberships. Others are opting to forgo gifts and instead have guests donate to designated charities in their honor. Registries now accurately reflects where the couple is in life and what their wants are as a married couple.

Pantone Color of the Year: Greenery

Each January Pantone, the market leader for analyzing and assessing color trends, picks a color to represent the coming year. The selection represents upcoming trends in everything from fashion to decor to wedding trends. This year Pantone’s color of the year is Greenery, the exact color match is PANTONE 15-0343; the color symbolizes new beginnings and growth in 2017. Pantone’s selection will have a huge impact on wedding trends as couples are expected to embrace more color and green hues in their celebrations. Neutrals have dominated wedding colors in recent years, in 2017 we welcome the resurgence of color! Along with green colors other trending colors include: primrose yellow, pink yarrow, flame (an Orange color), and Lapis Blue. For a full list of the 2017 Pantone color combinations click here.

Nontraditional Wedding Venues

The use of nontraditional wedding venues is trending as couples begin to opt out of using traditional venue spaces in favor of places with significant personal meaning. Couples are turning their weddings into immersive interactive experiences rather than static events says event producers Alison Laesser-Keck and Bryan Keck to Vogue magazine. “People are moving away from stereotypical ‘wedding venues’ in exchange for locations that are more special and rare. Think an alfresco meal at a long dinner table in front of a historic mansion, or tents on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean in Big Sur.”

Welcome in the Food Trucks

This year food trucks make their big mark in the wedding and event space. Couples are using food trucks as alternatives to traditional catering options and incorporating their favorite seasonal dishes in the process. Many couples like the idea of using food trucks because it allows them to offer a variety of meal options for guests and is often a more affordable option for large wedding parties. Be sure to consider how many guests you will have and how long it will take each guest to get through the line. A smart rule of thumb is to have a food truck for every 50-65 people. If your event has 300 people on the guest list you’ll want to have at least 6 trucks to make sure lines aren’t too long.

Infusing Nature with Decor

This year weddings will continue to incorporate nature in decor. The use of natural elements like wood, bark, cactus, and other foliage is especially popular in cities known for stunning outdoor scenery like Phoenix. Specifically in 2017, we see a rise in couples opting to add living trees to their decorations instead of just using seasonal florals. Trees are being used as centerpieces, as pillars to separate event space, and as take-home gifts for guests. The trees also add a symbolic element by representing the mark of a new beginning and joining of the couple in union.

Reaching New Heights with Installations

Wedding decor is reaching new heights with floral and lighting installations. Wedding and event planners note trends in the use of visual decorations to add unexpected decor elements to ceremonies. Besides being a gorgeous decor idea, hanging florals can help free up space on guest tables by taking the place of centerpieces. This new trend is both stunning form and function! Along with floral arrangements expect to see low-hanging string lights, edison bulbs, chandeliers trending in 2017.
